Saint Saba Church (Bqaa Kafra)

About this site

Saint Saba Church stands on the village square of Bqaa Kafra, the highest village in Lebanon and the birthplace of Saint Charbel Makhlouf. Dedicated to Saint Sabbas the Sanctified, the fifth-century desert monk who founded the great monastery of Mar Saba near Jerusalem, it is one of the village's churches alongside Our Lady of the Assumption and the old convent of Saint Eusebius (Mar Houshab). Pilgrims visiting Saint Charbel's birth house and grotto often stop here, and the parish celebrates its patron's feast every year on December 5.
