House of Saint Charbel is the restored family home of Saint Charbel Makhlouf in Bekaa Kafra, the highest village in Lebanon and the Middle East at roughly 1,750 meters, where he was born on May 8, 1828, and lived for his first 23 years before entering monastic life. Purchased by the Lebanese Maronite Order after miraculous light was reported at his tomb, the site now includes a chapel holding a lantern said to contain blood and water from the saint, a wall depicting his miracles, a museum of period household utensils, and a hall with rock-carved statues by sculptor Nayef Alwan portraying the Last Supper. Overlooking the Qannoubine Valley across from Bsharri, the village remains a living pilgrimage destination, visited day and night by the faithful.
