Our Lady of Deliverance Church (Zouk Mikael)

About this site

Our Lady of Deliverance Church, known locally as Saydet el Najat, is a Maronite church in Zouk Mikael, in the Keserwan District of Mount Lebanon, on the coast just south of Jounieh. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary under her title of Our Lady of Deliverance, invoked by the faithful for her protection in times of danger. The church holds a lasting place in Lebanon's modern history: on 27 February 1994, a bomb exploded during Sunday Mass, killing eleven worshippers and wounding dozens more. Each year on the anniversary, families, parishioners and visitors gather at the church to pray for the victims, and it remains a place of remembrance as well as an active parish church in the heart of Zouk Mikael.
