About this site

Saint Nohra Church is a Maronite church in Smar Jbeil, dating to the 3rd century, among the oldest in the Levant. Dedicated to Saint Nohra, whose name means "light" in Syriac, venerated as intercessor for sight and martyred nearby according to Maronite tradition. Smar Jbeil crowns a hilltop above the coast, its Phoenician-Crusader castle and three Maronite Patriarchs born here anchoring one of Lebanon's oldest villages.
