Our Lady of the Fortress Monastery stands on a hill overlooking the Nahr al-Kabir along the Lebanese–Syrian border in Menjez, Akkar. The monastery occupies the site of Qalaat Felis, a medieval Crusader fortress with evidence of earlier occupation in the surrounding area. During the mid-19th century, the sanctuary was renewed before being entrusted to the Jesuits in 1892, who built the present church and established a school. Since 1925, the monastery has been cared for by the Lebanese Maronite Order. Today, it remains an important Marian pilgrimage site in northern Lebanon, long associated in local tradition with prayers for healing.
