Mar Chaaya Monastery is the founding mother house of the Antonine Maronite Order, established here on August 15, 1700, by Bishop Gabriel of Blaouza, who later became Maronite Patriarch. Dedicated to Saint Isaiah of Aleppo, the monastery remains an active monastic community and the historic founding house of the order, its monks known simply as the "Mar Chaaya monks." Set on a hilltop known as Aramta at the edge of Broumana, the grounds include farmland and terraced orchards, and the monastery maintained longstanding relations with the Druze Emirs of the Abillama family during its early history.
