Saint Georges Church, built in the 18th century, is one of Faitroun's principal landmarks, alongside the town's ancient citadel with its historic wells. Dedicated to Saint George, celebrated each April 23rd, the church serves this predominantly Maronite Christian mountain town, whose name derives from Aramaic words meaning "throne of the lord." Faitroun sits at roughly 1,200 meters in the Keserwan highlands, some 33 kilometers north of Beirut.
