Qana Holy Grotto

About this site

Qana Holy Grotto is a natural cave in southern Lebanon that, according to local Christian tradition, is associated with the biblical Cana, where the Gospel of John recounts Jesus' first public miracle of turning water into wine at a wedding feast. Pilgrims descend a path to the grotto, now dedicated to the Virgin Mary, where local tradition links the site to Jesus' visit. The cave also contains rock-cut carvings and large stone basins that are traditionally associated with the biblical account. Nearby stands the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Saint Joseph, originally built in 1906 and later rebuilt after a fire. Located about 10 kilometers southeast of Tyre, the shrine continues to welcome Christian and Muslim visitors alike.
