Our Lady of Deliverance Cathedral (Saydit al Najat)

About this site

Our Lady of Deliverance (Saydet al-Najat) is a historic cathedral in Zahlé, in the Bekaa Valley, and the seat of the Archeparchy of Zahle and Furzol. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary under her title of Deliverance, honored for her intercession on behalf of the faithful in times of crisis. The cathedral’s revered image of Our Lady of Deliverance arrived from Austria in 1861, replacing an earlier one lost to fire. Zahlé stretches along the Bardouni River at the foot of Mount Sannine, historically Lebanon’s gateway between the coast and the Bekaa plain.
