Saint Rafqa
Biography
Born Boutrossieh Al-Rayes in Himlaya, she joined the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception in Bikfaya and later became a member of the Baladite Maronite Order of the Sacred Hearts. In 1885, she prayed to share in Christ's Passion; soon after, a botched eye surgery left her permanently blind, an affliction she embraced as a spiritual sacrifice for the rest of her life. She became one of Lebanon's most venerated female saints, canonized in 2001 as the country's first native female saint.
