Harissa

About this site

Convento San Francesco, Chiesa Sant'Antonio is a Roman Catholic Franciscan monastery in Harissa, invited to the site by the Maronite Patriarchs in the 1600s. Dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, its friars serve as a chapel of ease for the Maronite parish of Daroun and help with confessions at the nearby Marian shrine. Harissa's Our Lady of Lebanon sanctuary draws some two million visitors a year, Christian and Muslim alike, making this small Franciscan community neighbor to one of the Middle East's most-visited pilgrimage sites.
